Tornado types |
Supercell tornadoes are the most common and dangerous tornadoes that come from a supercell thunderstorm. (pictured) non-supercell tornadoes are whirls of dust or debris near the ground with no condensation funnel. __________________________________________________________ A Landspout tornado is a narrow condensation funnel that forms while the thunderstorm cloud is still growing.
(pictured) A Waterspout tornado is the same as landspout but occurs over water. __________________________________________________________ Fire whirl or Fire devils can form from wildfires or gasoline traveling up into the funnel. (pictured) Gustnado is the main type of non-supercell tornado that is not connected to a condensation funnel. __________________________________________________________ Single funnel tornado connected to the ground and the base of the cloud. (pictured) Multiple vortex is 2 to 5 funnels coming from the base of the cloud. __________________________________________________________ Dust Devil: Weak, Clear sky tornadoes that collect dust in their funnels. (pictured) Wedge: Monster tornadoes that cover the most ground of any tornado. These usually occur in the Southeastern part of the U.S. where there is Gulf moisture. __________________________________________________________ |
